What a year it’s been for Y Media Labs! This has undoubtedly been our most impactful and inspiring year as a company. From working with some of the most influential companies in the world, to getting new office digs to support our ever-growing team, 2014 was very good to us.
Here are some of the things we’ve been up to this past year that we’re most proud of.
As an expanding mobile interactive agency, we’ve had the tremendous privilege of working with some of the world’s most valuable and groundbreaking companies, including EMC, StubHub, Western Union, PayPal and American Express amongst others.
We collaborated with Staples, the 3rd largest ecommerce site on the globe, to conduct a massive overhaul of their ecommerce app. We helped the company become one of the first apps to support Apple Pay (at launch mind you), allowing their iOS users to conveniently and securely make purchases using Touch ID.
Renowned bloggers, Naomi and Josh Davis of Love Taza and Joy Cho of Oh Joy came to us to create Pippit– A top ranked social app that allows users to keep up with their favorite bloggers and bookmark desired products. We also worked with lifestyle blogger and author Michelle Tam, to further promote Nom Nom Paleo’s increasingly popular caveman cuisine.
AWARDS (DESIGN & ENGINEERING)
We are also lucky to say that our work was not left unnoticed. In 2014, YML received some highly coveted awards: Nom Nom Paleo was the winner of a Webby Award as well as a Davey Award and our work with PayPal received a W3 Award. Our Intro to Letters app continues to receive various accolades, and was recently honored with a Best Mobile App Award. Other apps from the Montessorium suite remain on Apple billboards worldwide (To be more specific: Berlin, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York).
YML has also grown as a team, and in fact we have been growing for a while! Our professional family grew by 35 employees last year and we are now 150 people strong, most of us gathered in Redwood City, California.
Last year we took a few off-sites, which included an epic go-kart race, and some team building at a goat farm (yeah that happened). For the holiday season, we all sat down for a team dinner and enjoyed some top shelf whiskey, resulting in some silly photo booth shots.
And with an ever-growing team, our management naturally grew with it. We graciously welcomed Brian Faeh our VP of Client Sales, Ben Hewett our Creative Director, and Robbie Abed our Marketing Director. All of these experienced industry leaders believed in YML’s vision and have significantly helped us achieve our fullest potential.
Following some of these successes, I put on some charm and spoke at a few awesome tech conferences this year, including the Houston based Android BBQ, as well as the GMIC Silicon Valley (my presentation can be found here). YML CTO, Sumit Mehra and I have also had the opportunity of sharing our thoughts with some of the top publications in the world, including Tech Crunch, Forbes, Business Insider, Inc Magazine, Wired and Fast Company amongst others (Find the full list here).
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
In celebration of our success, we are launching a division dedicated to teaching & enabling organizations. Topics will include mobile, leadership, as well as design & technology strategy. At the current moment, all courses will be via e-mail and will be free to you and your organization. Courses will be filled with researched content coming straight from the mouths of our award-winning developers and designers. In short, this is our way of honoring our constant dedication to learning and giving back. If you want to sign-up for this course, please subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this post.
No Annual Recap would be complete without a lofty, but reachable goal for 2015.
Our 2015 goal is to be recognized as the top mobile development agency in North America. To get there, we will need your help.
If you love the work that we do or have used any of the products we have created, I would really appreciate it if you can share this post with a friend or co-worker that can benefit from our services. Feel free to email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or referrals.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives. We can only hope that 2015 will bring us the same joy that 2014 did.
